“BE STRONG AND VERY COURAGEOUS. BE CAREFUL TO OBEY
ALL THE LAW MY SERVANT MOSES GAVE YOU; DO NOT TURN
FROM IT TO THE RIGHT OR TO THE LEFT, THAT YOU MAY BE
SUCCESSFUL WHEREVER YOU GO.” JOSHUA 1:7
Fear holds back a lot of us, and for a long time it held back me.
Fear stops us from believing in God’s promises, it’s stops us
from moving and acting upon His word. The devil uses fear so
that we never move, we stay comfortable and safe where we
are, when God has called us to move and to act upon His word.
Here in the first chapter of Joshua, Moses has died and the role
of leadership has now been passed over to Joshua. God gives
Joshua a promise saying that He will always be with him, that He
is giving the Israelites this land to possess and inherit, but they
must obey God’s word and keep His commandments. God knew
that Joshua was probably afraid and so He encouraged Him. He
told Him to hold on to His word, to be strong and very
courageous. And God says the same to you and me, to be
strong and very courageous. God sent us out to the whole word
to preach the gospel and spread the good news, so have
courage and speak out! He told us in Matthew 10:8, “Heal the
sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out
the demons. Freely you have received; freely give.” So have
faith and pray for those who need healing. Act upon His word,
and if you don’t know what Jesus told us to do, read the word.
He left us with instructions in the Bible, but He also gave us
much encouragement, through the word; He also gave us a
Comforter and a Helper as the Holy Spirit. Do not fear, for God is
with you, He is encouraging us and sending us out to preach the
word, and ACT on the word.
