2 CORINTHIANS 4:7
“WE KNOW HAVE THIS LIGHT SHINING IN OUR HEARTS, BUT WE
OURSELVES ARE LIKE FRAGILE CLAY JARS CONTAINING THIS
GREAT TREASURE. THIS MAKES IT CLEAR THAT OUR GREAT
POWER IS FROM GOD, NOT OURSELVES”

Think of yourself as a clay vessel. Say you’re a jar, or a vase. If
you’ve ever tried making a clay jar for the first time, you know it’s
not easy. You have to shape it and mold it, and even so it might not
turn out as perfect as you like on your first try. We are all vessels,
but we are not perfect. Our outside and inside needs to be
smoothed out, maybe our handle is a bit crooked. Whatever it is,
we all have our faults and imperfections. But each one of us has the
choice of fixing and working on our faults, or living with them. For
a long time in my own life, I was always convincing myself that I
was okay with my imperfections. “Nobodies perfect” is a very
common phrase we like to say in our lives. And I believe this phrase
hinders us from growing. We don’t want to work on our temper, we
are fine with how impatient we are, and were satisfied with how
our character is, but God wants us to be transformed into His
image. For us to be transformed there are some actions we must
take and sacrifices we need to make. Let us examine ourselves;
what do we need to work on? I know I have many faults myself, and
there is always something I can work on. To be like Jesus, we
cannot be satisfied with our faults and imperfections, we must
recognize them and work on them. We can do that by letting the
potter work on the clay. It’s not going to be easy, he’ll have to
remold you, break pieces off of you and continue to shape it into
the right piece, into a piece smooth both inside and outside, a
vessel where the handle is in the right place and the vase is not
lopsided. Many of us will choose to live with our faults, and never
try to work on them; but if we truly want to live for Jesus and be
holy as he is holy, were going to have to let him work on us. He
might have to break the vessel many times, and start from scratch,
and it will be a process, but a process that will yield results. So let
us examine ourselves, and choose to work on our flaws and look
more like Jesus by letting the Potter mold us into His perfect image.
