I often get asked: Do I have to floss my teeth? My usual reply is “only floss the ones you want to keep.” The reason is because plaque in the mouth contains bacteria. If the bacteria doesn’t get removed, an infection may painlessly eat away at bone for years until the tooth has no support and it falls out. A lot of people approach their health with the attitude: “If it doesn’t hurt – don’t worry about it.” In the long run this attitude may cost them their teeth, their smile, and tens of thousands of dollars.
Likewise, in the spiritual world – many say “if it’s not bothering me – don’t worry about it.” This apathetic attitude may have been present in your life for years. Just like the infection of bone supporting the teeth, your spiritual “infection” may currently be painless, and easily ignored. The Bible says, “Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour…” That means you have to be proactive. In other words if you aren’t actively preparing yourself to meet Jesus and staying alert, there will come a time when you won’t know what hit you.
Ignoring the problem never makes it go away. It just makes it bigger and harder to deal with in the future. One day when you face God, will He look at you and say, “Good and faithful servant…. you have done the will of your master?” Take action, start getting ready today! Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh…His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful.. “Therefore, having these promises, beloved,
let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit,
perfecting holiness in the fear of God.”
