1 J O H N 2 : 2
“HE IS THE ATONING SACRIFICE FOR OUR SINS, AND NOT ONLY FOR OURS BUT ALSO FOR THE SINS OF THE WHOLE WORLD.”
Have you ever taken the blame for anyone? Maybe your sibling spilled something, so you decided that instead of them getting yelled at, you would take the fall.
There is someone who took the fall for us too, Jesus Christ.
But it wasn’t for something like spilled juice; it was a much bigger sacrifice. It was for every little white lie and down to the biggest crime. It was for every thief and adulterer, criminal and murderer. I think we forget the cost and significance of God’s sacrifice, for we look at ourselves and we think we’re doing all right, that our life isn’t too muddled with dirt. But every sin is the same in God’s eye; from the smallest to the biggest it causes the same hurt and pain to Him. For it’s an offense to His holy nature, it’s a transgression to everything He is. And Christ took the blame; He defiled His perfect body and tainted it with the lawlessness of a whole nation. Upon His shoulders, He took the burden of our guilt and shame and paved a road to forgiveness and eternal life through His new covenant.
Let us never forget that sacrifice and the weight of what God did for us.
He did not do it just for us, those who try every day to get better and repent of our sins, but He did it for those who would never appreciate the cost and would never account that they did anything wrong. He didn’t look back when He knew it would be for murderers and those who shed innocent blood; He endured through the pain and the beatings as if it were His own sin.
God did that so that we could have eternal life. Christ endured through all of that so that everyone could receive freedom in Him. Every single soul on this earth is given the chance to receive new life.
Not one of us is better, not even if we have never done half of those iniquities, for all have fallen short of the glory of God, yet God loves us all.
