If You Ever Run
When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entrance of the cave. And behold, a voice came to him and said, “What are you doing here, Elijah?”
1 Kings 19:13
God has a way of finding people in the wilderness…when they run away from the crowd, the effort of the journey draining them, until their physical state matches the exhaustion of their spirit. He joins them in their self-imposed exile, in their feelings of loneliness. “What are you doing?” He asks, and calls them by name.
If you ever run, chasing solitude, because you have no strength or desire left to face fears or doubts, consider that perhaps that is not the worst place to be. Listen; perhaps there is a still small voice speaking to you. It belongs to One strong enough to hear your complaints, and wise enough to direct your steps.
