H E B R E W S 5 : 1 3 – 1 4

“ANYONE WHO LIVES ON MILK, BEING STILL AN INFANT, IS NOT
ACQAUAINTED WITH THE TEACHING OF RIGHTEOUSNESS. BUT
SOLID FOOD IS FOR THE MATURE, WHO BY CONSTANT USE HAVE
TRAINED THEMSELVES TO DISTINGUISH GOOD FROM EVIL.”

Do you remember that first taste? That first taste of the bread of life; that
first gulp of God’s love like milk pouring into the mouth of a babe. It was our
nourishment and source of life. We hung onto every word of Christ.
Is it still so?

Or now, do we rely on a Sunday sermon? Have we become too dependent
on the words of others, the encouragement of our fellow brothers and
sisters, do we seek truth in those around us, rather than in God? Does our
inspiration stop at daily Bible verses or weekly youth testimonies?
If our time with God ends at the exit of the church, my dearest beloved we
have become too accustomed to milk. Like newborn babies we cannot tell
left from right, we won’t understand what else God wants to teach us.
It is time to move on to solid food.

If we only know one face of God, it shows we are lacking in nourishment.
For He has so much more to show us than just being a Father, He is a
Friend, a Teacher, a Shepherd, a Counselor, a Provider, a Comforter and so,
so much more. He cannot be described in one word; He cannot be
contained to one attribute; He’s not limited to one personality.
But how can we know if we have only drunk milk?

It’s time we move onto weightier subjects. It is time to pick up our Bibles
and dive deep. It’s time to read with a purpose, pray with determination, and
listen with intention. Let God teach us something new, let Him show us
something more than we’ve been constraining ourselves too. Let us taste
and see the goodness of the bread of Life.
