1 SAMUEL 23: 14
“DAVID STAYED IN THE WILDERNESS IN THE
STRONGHOLDS…”
– S T R O N G H O L D –
A PLACE THAT HAS BEEN FORTIFIED SO AS TO PROTECT IT
AGAINST ATTACK.
When reading about David, you’ll find many passages are similar to
this verse, “in the strongholds”. Most of his life he was running away
from Saul, seeking refuge in the wilderness. When we look at the
definition of stronghold, we see it’s a safe haven, a place to hide.
The more I read about David, the more I see that David’s stronghold
was not just a wall of rocks that hid him from Saul’s sight, but it was
the Lord. No matter how much Saul chased and pursued, David was
hidden in Gods presence and stronghold, a place where he was
protected from attack. In the strongholds, David wrote many of his
infamous psalms, in them he explains how God is his refuge
– Psalm 31: 2 “God is the rock and stronghold, seek refuge in
Him.” –
David is telling us, that if we are being attacked in life, it is only God
who can save us. In our lives if we are being attacked, when we are
being tested, or going through trials, the best thing we can do is be
in God’s presence where we are protected and fortified. But, we
cannot simply hide, but we must be on guard by staying constant in
prayer and in reading the word of truth that combats against the
flaming arrows of the devil. And I know that no matter what happens
in our lives, no matter how hard and scary, or complicated things
get, if we seek God and stay in His stronghold, we will remain in the
victory of Christ as David did.
