“BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART,
FOR THEY SHALL SEE GOD.”
MATTHEW 5:8

Why do we come to church? For some of us maybe it’s because
we like fellowship, for others their parents made them; and even
so for others maybe they only came because they were
speaking or performing. We must question are intentions. If we
come today with wrong motives, what will we get out of service?
It will become the same dull practice, a habit we grew, and so
we stunt spiritual growth. I ask the same thing when we read our
bibles or have fellowship in prayer. Is it only to say I have read
this many chapters, or prayed this many hours? Do we do it not
to feel guilty or maybe we only come to prayer when we feel
guilty? God looks at our hearts and He sees right through what
man can see on the outside. He wants our heart to be right with
Him. We can hide nothing before Him, and if He knows
everything, can we show genuine honesty? Read because you
want to know your God, to grow stronger and more
knowledgeable in truth. Have prayer not for meaningless
recitation of long words and requests, but to get to know your
Savior, Father, and friend. He longs to get to know you, not your
memorization of verses. Many times we choose to impress man,
rather than to be truthful before God. But if we choose to speak,
let us speak with intention instead of force, if we read let us
read with enthusiasm instead of habit, and when we come
before God let us be honest about our intentions and open up
our hearts. God will move in those wanting to move, not those
hiding with words with no meaning or action behind them.
